Mia

For Karen! This is Mia, leader of a pack of ocean-going werewolves:

Mia

Her official description says it best: “Mia’s concept is that of the den mother. She has a young son she can’t be with, and so she sublimates that into the desire of taking care of the young of her kind - all of them. She is a den mother as a mother wolf is - dedicated, watchful, tender and caring to her ‘puppies’ and yet frighteningly determined to kill or die for them without yielding.”

This is a bit off-topic, but this project got me thinking: Don’t wolfsong and whalesong sound oddly similar?

Just started reading The DC Comics Guide to Digitally Drawing Comics, and did one of the practice exercises. Split infinitives aside, so far it’s an excellent book! The author’s digital workflow is very smooth and efficient, and I want to incorporate some of it into my own comic-making routine. However…

I don’t think I’ll go so far as to start inking the comic again. XD I’d forgotten how long that takes. (Though alas, I do enjoy it.) ♥

Can you recognize these fine folks? I’ll give you three guesses:

Discworld Gift Art

…Got it?

If you guessed “Lord Vetinari, Granny Weatherwax, and Terry Pratchett himself,” award yourself a cookie!

This is the NADWCON gift art that I was working on for the last few days. Just finished it this morning, then took a two-mile walk to Kinko’s to have it properly printed and laminated. (Note to self: Buy new ink cartridges for the home printer. And look into the matter of stealing a laminator.)

I barely managed to catch up to Terry and hand it to him as he made his escape after the closing ceremony. I’m so glad I was able to finish it on time. :D

He thanked me kindly, even though he was in a hurry and could only glance at it. I hope he’ll be pleased with it once he has a chance to relax and take a look at it later.

I’m fairly happy with how it turned out. It was incredibly rushed, but I would far rather have something nice to give to my favorite author than something perfect that I can’t.

As for the con itself, overall… it was fantastic! I’ll see about doing a proper write-up later; if I started to talk about everything that was awesome now, we would be here all night. ♥
