General Information

About the comic:

The True Magic comic can be described as simply as ABC: Adventure, Bishounen, Comedy.

There's more to it, of course -- there are some protagonistic peasants, and a plot in which they attempt to prevent the neighboring noblemen from using them as practice dummies for magic and martial arts -- but all you really need to know is that it's meant to be FUN. Maybe not always for the characters, but for you!

Since this is one continuing story, it's best to start at the beginning. There are only 69 pages, so it's easy to catch up.

Have fun! (Or else!)

About everything else:

The True Magic site, on the other hand, has a lot of other things to see. Of course the comic is the star of the show at the moment, but feel free to check out the top or bottom navigation bars for more art, writing, and other fun stuff.

Occasionally Asked Questions

What's your update schedule?

True Magic updates with a new page every Tuesday.

What's up with that "Progress" bar?

That's my alternative to a donation meter! Instead of posting extra updates when readers donate a certain amount, I post extra updates when I earn a certain amount. People can help that total along with donations if they like, but it isn't required. This system is basically my way of treating the comic as my full-time work whenever I can afford to do so, and letting you guys see how well that's going along the way. :)

I should note that "extra" income (anything above the most recent achievement mark, if it's "break even" or better) rolls over to the next month. So I'll never say, "oops, sorry, we fell short of a bonus comic by one dollar this month." Rather, the $199 that almost got us there will be added to the next month's total. Everything counts!

Will you put True Magic in print?

Indeed! I'm saving all pages at a high resolution for that very purpose. It will take a while (probably a long while) to compile, but I'm planning for at least one TM book.

Do you attend conventions?

Currently, I don't. If that ever changes, I'll be sure to post about it in the front-page news.

Do you participate in link exchanges?

No, sorry. All of the sites in the links section are there because I personally love them and want more people to see them, not because I'm hoping they'll return the favor. I expect that if someone links to True Magic, it's for similar reasons. There's no obligation on either side -- just good will!

What's this about an "old version" of True Magic? Why can't I find a link to it?

Starting in 2003, I took what turned out to be a 150-page practice run at the comic. I learned a lot, made a ton of mistakes (not necessarily in that order), and now I'm trying again! The comic you see on the front page is the current version, and the one I will finish -- no matter how many more mistakes I make. ;)

There are no prominent links to the old comic because it contains a boatload of spoilers and misleading elements that would confuse the current plot. (Also, I'm rather embarrassed at the quality.) However, once the current story catches up to where the old version was when it stopped, there should be no problem with linking to it -- so I will! Just be patient.

Why are you redrawing the comic?

I'm actually rewriting the comic. The art upgrade is incidental -- although I'm sure that those of you who've seen the old version appreciate it. ;) Anyway, I started over because it turned out that the story I had set up wasn't the story I wanted to tell. And I agree with the saying: "No matter how far you have gone down the wrong road, turn back."

So here we are! Setting off along the right road, with hundreds of pages ahead. I hope you'll enjoy the expedition as much as I have so far.

Can I ask another question?

Yes indeed -- right over here!
