Silly Bandz

Hey, so people have been asking fun questions on Formspring! And I’ve been having fun writing answers! But in this case, the answer that occurred works better as a picture than as a paragraph. :D

Question:
I wonder how the gang would react to the current “silly bandz” craze…

Answer:
Methinks thou dost protest too much, Mr. Rainbow-Gauntlet.

It was sillybandz wielding squirrels. When Kiku was leisurely eating a sandwich, a herd of them descended from the heavens- er I mean trees, and blinded him with their silly bandz powers. While Kiku was blindly slashing at the air with his claws, the scoundrels ran off with all his sandwiches.

    That’s what happened. xD

  2. DarkMousy Says:

I approve of Joe arranging his chromatically. Did Jen put hers in her hair? :-P

  3. tulsileaf Says:

    It’s always the squirrels.

  4. KitFang Says:

I…have never heard of this phenomenon. Thanks to my slow internet, I was sitting here waiting for a picture about some kind of silly…BANDS. Like–musical ones. I thought perhaps there was some internet thing where you designed outrageous rock-or-what-have-you bands and cast yourself and your buddies in them… Or………..something. I was very perplexed.

Then I read the wiki link (thanks for that, btw). I’m going to assume that such things are still on the geographical fringes of the country and have not yet reached into the succulent, meaty middle of America. If we ever see such things here, I can assure you, it’ll probably be about 2 years late for the craze. (Though, to be fair, I’m not exactly on the pulse of our area’s gradeschoolers. >_> )

Is anyone else mildly disturbed that Bob is pondering so many *interesting* applications for them?

  5. Aja Says:

    Yesss. Never trust squirrels.

@DarkMousy: I think Jen gave hers to Joe. :D

@KitFang: Same here. XD Only I was imagining some YouTube meme where you draw cartoon faces over videos of real bands… or something. (The actual rubber band shapes are pretty cute, though it seems like they’d be bad for circulation.)

…You probably should be disturbed. In terms of comic warfare, the invention of rubber bands would be the next best thing to the invention of gunpowder. >_>

  6. KitFang Says:

…As the squirrels have well discovered!
If we don’t arm ourselves accordingly, we could soon be living in a squirrtocracy!!! D8

  7. Athena Says:

This is made doubly funny due to the fact that my little sister just got several packets of these on her birth-day.
My mom and I were kept entertained trying to figure out which was what. “If this one’s a whale, then is THIS one, too? A chicken leg, maybe? Oh… a pear”

  8. Muppaphone Says:

I’m from the UK and only heard about these yesterday – they had an article about them on the bbc news website!
I showed this to my mom and she explained suspiciously quickly that Kiku had obviously been trying to use them as necklaces.
Clearly what she would do with them given half the chance then…

  9. Muppaphone Says:

…just looked at the wiki link and realised that the company seems to call itself Silly Bandz in the US but Silly Bands in the UK. Looks like the kids are just too strait-laced and uptight over here to handle the word ‘bandz’!

    *dying with laughter*

My favorite is Joe. I have seen so many younger guys who are apparantly obsessed with those things and have them all the way up their arms. What’s great is that he’s denying he likes them.
Jen’s reaction is my second favorite.

I worked at a camp and those things were really popular. They WERE kind of fun, because you saw them on people and were like, “Oh, what shapes do you have?” But after I got home from the camp…yeah, they kind of lost it for me again. Ah well, kids will be kids. We had Pokemon, they have Silly Bandz.

And I dunno, KitFang. I’m in Ohio and those things are EVERYWHERE. There is even a kiosk at the mall that sells them. Or some version of them, at least.

  11. Aja Says:

@Muppaphone: Your mom is probably right. :D Also… wait, wait, wait… Wait. Companies spell words correctly in the UK? When can I move in?

@Riverfox: Silly Bandz and Pokémon — never thought of comparing those two, but the concepts do sound surprisingly similar! (…And now I’m picturing someone walking around with a bunch of colorful cartoon animals clinging to their arms.) XD

P.S. I’ve never seen Silly Bandz before in my life, but just today I saw an entire rack of them at the store. Did they just appear, or have they been there all along? Dun dun dun!

Uhmmmm… I shan’t tell you about my Pokemon Trainer then, Aja…

Oh shush, I was in high school when the craze first hit and Platinum gave me IDEAS.
