Well, I hope I can ever finish it. 300+ chapters (divided into 6 books) seem like a daunting task.
By the way, I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming fight. Free knives for everybody! _________________ I am the Ice. |

@ Paul_V: My brother had a character once who cast a blinding spell on anyone who approached him. And once he got rich, he would randomly give gold coins to his stepson. _________________ The rain, it raineth every day

Why do I find that so hilarious? I especially like the part about giving gold coins to his stepson. Kind of a way of saying "Stepdaddy isn't evil, sonny." _________________ I am the Ice. |

My favourite RP character ever was from the Final Fantasy RPG, an Optional Job called the Oracle. The closest they come to a damage spell is Poison, everything else is statuses.
She blinded a guy and knocked him over the edge of a bridge. Everyone else was like " she actually killed someone?" and the DM was " she finally killed someone!"
That character was fun. I might write for her, actually... _________________ Gryphons are better than dragons. Gryphons PURR. |

Like from Final Fantasy Tactics? I loved that game! I don't like the new advance ones though.
The thing with causing status effects is that it never seems to work as well as it should, like most enemies are conveniently immune to them...
I liked the Mediator. I remember trying to end several battles through pacifism and negotiation. |

XiaoCaity: That's really funny! I can imagine the stunned looks on people's faces. Though I have to say, if you have access to Poison, killing should be easy. But I'll admit you get points for originality.
SaintCy: I think XiaoCaity means the Tabletop version, which is a sort of mishmash between all the Final Fantasies in terms of races, jobs, magic and the like. I skimmed through it once, but I never got around to playing it. But yeah, most games suffer from the Useless Useful Spell trope... _________________ I am the Ice. |

The Tabletop version, yeah.
Thing is, I was low level (like about three or four) so I only had a couple of spells, and being me I went for the Holy Trinity of useful spells, Blind/Sleep/Scan. No Poison for me! On the upside, my DM was pretty cool about me playing a status character and made sure that I could do something useful most of the time. And if I couldn't status them into submission, I happened to carry a collection of magic items for the express purpose of actually hurting them.
Good god I need to write that character. With a little tweaking I could probably combine her with my Alchemist, make a character who uses brains and status effects to maul her enemies. Mmmmmmmm.
And Mediator wins. _________________ Gryphons are better than dragons. Gryphons PURR. |

Oh, yeah, writing about your favourite RPG characters is a ton of fun.
I really like the character you played. It sounds like she was a great source of roleplaying opportunities.
Heh, I like characters who solve things with classy violence. Why bother with nasty weapons when you can elegantly swipe away your foes with status magic and pretty explosives?
Actually, you reminded me of a joke I once made with one of my characters in a game.
Quote: | Villain NPC: "Alas, we meet again! But this time, you shall not defeat me! I shall never allow you to pass!"
Me: "You know, I have two possible courses of action at this moment. I can trigger a complex device that will fire a poisoned bolt at you, knocking you unconscious within seconds, or I can punch you in the face. Guess which one I'm going to take."
Villain: *oozing disbelief* "You're going to punch me in the face, I gather?"
Me: "Actually, no. I'm going to distract you with my chatter while my companions slip past you."
Villain: "WHAT?! NO!" *turns around*
Me: "Too late, they're gone now. You can't catch up with them, they've got a huge head start on you."
Villain: "This cannot be! I shall destroy you all!"
Me: "Actually, no." *taps Villain in the shoulder* "Now I'm going to punch you in the face." *sucker-punches Villain into unconsciousness* |
