My webcomic collective, SpiderForest, is doing a collaborative promo event where we all help to feature each other's work.
We'll all be highlighting a few comics per week, grouped by theme, so you'll get to see many different genres and styles from week to week. If any of the stories sound like your cup of tea, please check them out!
This week's theme is...
Seek and Ye Shall Find We all seek something... and in our attempt we often find, but not always what was sought at the outset. The Quest of Casey Tailor — The Quest of Casey Tailor is about a kid trying to save his baby sister who was kidnapped by a fairy. He has no idea why, though, and when he runs into problems at the royal palace, seemingly there are more questions than answers. Clover and Cutlass — The daughter of an orc warlord falls for a girl her family wants dead. If they can't stop her parents from ending the world, how's she ever gonna ask her out? Prophet of the Sun — Prophet of the Sun is about a selfish loser trying to dodge the consequences of making a deal with the devil. |

Since the previous post, we've regained $14 of patronage. And thank goodness, some wonderful holiday donations have bridged the gap between our current Patreon income and our January rent. ♥
Many thanks to all our Patrons, and to these supporters who recently contributed extra help:
(To the generous Anonymous: I sent you a thank-you note, so please check in case it got marked as spam!) |
We're still working to reach at least the $400/page mark, so that we can keep paying our rent.
Every bit of support helps. If you can pledge a dollar or few, and/or recommend the comic to a friend, you can really make a difference.
Happy New Year! Here's hoping this is a good year for all of us.

Since last week's post, we've received one donation and regained $20 of patronage. Thank you so much to Lena, Leon, Seth and Caitlynn! ♥
To recap:
We're trying to get back up to $400/page, because that's the minimum needed to cover our rent.
You might think that I could just produce a couple extra pages each month to make up for the lower per-page rate. Indeed, I thought the very same thing! So I've been trying to do that... all year long.
And it's been taking continuous 40-to-60-hour work weeks to produce even the minimum four pages each month.
If you're wondering, "How the heck is that even possible?!" let me tell you: So am I. ಠ_ಠ
It most likely comes down to chronic burnout, made worse by spending all summer in "produce and/or perish" mode. There's nothing quite like being forced to exert 100% effort, 100% of the time, all the while knowing that nothing you do can possibly be enough.
Apparently that kind of stress can really impair a person's performance.
Sadly, that's our situation once again: Unless/until we get back to $400+ per page, my current maximum output is not enough. But I still have to do whatever it takes to achieve that output.
No matter what, I'll be working nonstop through my would-be holidays to finish this month's pages. The only question is whether those pages will earn enough to pay our rent in January.
So I really need your help. Please consider adding your support!
These are the BEST ways you can help: 1. You can pledge $1+ on Patreon, if that's comfortable for you. 2. You can make a donation with our PayPal button or directly through our Patreon shop. 3. You can recommend True Magic to other nice people who are likely to enjoy it! (If you're on Bluesky, one easy way to do this is to repost my comic promo for new readers!) |
I love making this story for you guys, and I'm more than willing to devote any amount of time and effort to it.
I'm not complaining about the work, I just need to be able to live in order to keep doing it.
Thank you for any support you can give!

I hope your holiday season is off to a good start. ♥
EDIT: Unfortunately, ours is... not. I just found out we lost our biggest Patreon supporter today, so we're back in Emergency Mode until we can work our way up to the $400 milestone again (the bare minimum to cover our rent).
If you can pledge even a dollar or two, please help us get there!

In other news: I've joined Bluesky, and it's very nice. There are so many great artists to follow!
That's the main place I'll be posting comic updates (and occasional fun sketches) from now on. Come say hi!
And for anyone who wants a super easy way to support the comic: I've created a pinned post to introduce the story to people who might enjoy it. If you'd like to give it a quick repost, that's a great way to help True Magic find new readers. ♥
Thank you for reading!

Okay... hear me out. I know I already recommended dungeon synth in an earlier post. But here's the thing: Since then, I've discovered even more dungeon synth.
All three of these went straight into my daily writing playlist:
Wraith Knight - Deep in the Dungeons of the Dragonlord
Great album name, cover art, and music (especially the title track). A wonderful soundtrack for an epic adventure.
Argonaught - Dark Halls
Ominous and intriguing. It really captures the mood of a classic dungeon crawl, where there may be danger around every corner but you can't help exploring just a little further...
Karma Pylons - Path of the Ancients
Lovely mystical vibes, somehow both chill and energizing. Feels less like a dungeon delve, and more like a sojourn to a magical temple.
This genre has so many hidden gems. ♥

Since the last update, we've raised $29 in patronage, and reached the $400 milestone. Huzzah! Thank you so much to Kat, Galen, and a very generous anonymous patron! ♥
I'll keep working hard to reach that full-time income goal. In the meantime, it's wonderful to feel a little safer. Many thanks to everyone who is supporting True Magic! It means the world to us.
In other news: I've missed posting recommendations here, so...
For anyone who may need some stress relief, here's another nice track from a channel I've recommended before:
Super Deep Smoothed Brown Noise
It doesn't seem like "noise" would do anything much, but somehow... it's actually noticeably soothing? Kinda feels like listening to a distant waterfall.
I've been playing it in the background, and it certainly helped me relax and focus while writing this post. Maybe it will be helpful to you too. :)
