So, I've just seen the fast-tracked-from-the-US premiere of Stargate Universe. Oh wow. Oh wow. I think I like it. Hell, I think I love it. I can only pray they don't screw it over like they did to Atlantis.

(I loved Atlantis, but the final episode was a combined deus ex machina and a big fat screw you to the fans.)

Anyone else seen it? Opinions?

Initially, I thought pretty much this:

I have hope for the series, if they can avoid the network trap of trying to duplicate success by copying shows, rather then actually figuring out why the original show was successful it could be entertaining.

I'll keep watching it for a few weeks. Really want to give it a chance to be the Stargate that it can be.
Really, I'm waiting for Rush to get in a position where he has the chance to make a decision. One choice will be totally self serving and will advance his own agenda, or he can save the lives of some of the humans on the ship. In my ideal fantasy show, he'll make the "Save the lives" choice, and then when Gamer-kid looks suprised, Rush looks at him "Do I look like Gaius Baltar?". If the show does this, I will be a fan forever.

There's a new Stargate show? Is this the show from the old rumor of a Stargate show on a spaceship?

That'd be the one.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuup. It seems pretty good so far. The characters are already cool, Rush is... well, I'm not sure if he's the king of jerks or what... and I totally dig Eli, just because it's nice to see someone watching all the stuff going on around them and just say 'dude, what?'

Also, the Senator's death scene made me cry and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

One of the things I'm looking forward to is the producers have said they are going to try for fewer humanoid aliens.
I know they'll still have rubber foreheads show up on occasion, it's pretty much inevitable, but seeing something completely inhuman like the replicator bugs is always interesting.

That should be awesome. I've always preferred the more inhuman aliens. I liked the Wraith for the fact that they looked humanoid because they'd started out as humans (and they were just plain SCARY), and I love the Replicators and the Iratus bugs for their complete inhumanity.

(Plus, seeing David Ogden Spiers on STARGATE made me all kinds of happy. He used to be Charles Emerson Winchester on MASH, y'know.)

All this coming from the girl who's all-time favourite aliens are Klingons. Oh, hush, I grew up on Star Trek.

Um, I might be a week behind you... I did get to see Rush collapse from
caffiene deprivation
, and now I like him even more. It was funny and actually had me going 'oh crap he's gonna die you're all screwed!'

If you're talking about the reserve power going out, of course he knew, but because they wouldn't send Eli to work with him he couldn't get anyone to shut up long enough to actually listen. That's my opinion, anyway.

The little cam-blog things were sweet, they reminded me of that episode from the first season of Atlantis when they recorded their goodbyes.

Yeah, last fridays episode (for me) followed the power outage.
I won't spoil what happens though.
