So, I gather some of you are fans of Terry Pratchett.
This is a good thing, and a sentiment I fully support and can stand behind.

I was wondering if any of you had ordered the latest book in the series?
Unseen Academicals

Alternatively, talk about other books by Pratchett that you enjoyed.
If you haven't read anything by him, correct that grievous mistake and return, you'll thank me eventually.

I've placed a hold at the library, and they have it on order, so presumably I'll get it nearly as soon as they do. Cheese! I'm looking forward to it!

I really like what I've heard of it so far. Rob Wilkins (Terry Pratchett's henchcaptain), did a live reading of a few excerpts at the convention, and the audience burst out laughing about every fifteen seconds. The new characters sound interesting, and it has Rincewind! Though it's hard to tell whether he'll play a major role or not.

They passed out cards with a code to enter to see another excerpt online. I'm allergic to sites that make you sign up to claim the free thing they're offering, so I haven't picked it up -- but maybe someone here will want it!

Site: shop.harpercollins.com/bea
Code: EGAL-2009-USAD-0026

(The code is the same on all the cards, so I bet several people can use it.)

On the subject of Pratchett books in general... Anyone else read Nation yet? :D

I am woefully behind on my Pratchett, I haven't read any of the new ones since Going Postal. I loved Moist von Lipwig, though. He was so completely unpredictable and loopy!

I for one will probably wait for the paperback. I already have complete Discworld collection (minus the short stories and "Where is my cow?") in paperback and a sole hardcover would look very strange... Wink

Aja, I've read Nation and it's lovely!
I like it a lot, it's good to read something non-Discworld by Pratchett. It's maybe not quite as funny or satirical as the Discworld-books, Nation is more cute and fluffy, somehow. The small pictures at the beginning of every chapter are so wonderful, I'm happy I got the big hard-bound edition instead of the paperback edition! :D

I'm looking forward to Unseen Academicals, but I think I have to read all other Discworld novels first (there are maybe five that I haven't read).
Oh well, I still have time! It'll be released in Finland the eighth of October, I think...

Eighth... of OCTOber...
THE OCTAGON IS OUT TO GET ME! HALP! THE HORROR

It's ok, it's not the Eighth of October. Think of it instead as day 7b of the tenth month.
Take a deep breath, it's going to be ok.

Day 7b of the tenth month.
Day 7b of the tenth month.
Day 7b of the tenth month.
Day 7b of the tenth month.

*deep breath*

OK, I think I'm all right now, thanks See!

I also just finished reading Feet of Clay for the second time (first time in English, mind you, Swedish translations are rubbish!) and I would like to take the opportunity to make a high-pitched fangirlsqueal over a certain Watch Officer (Vimes, you shabby, cynical ol' copper, I'm looking at you!)

*fangirlsqueeeal*

Ahem.
I'm good now.
Sorry.

Isn't Vimes just wonderful? *fangirl sigh* He's just so... real. And oh gosh, the weird relationship he has with the Patrician... *joy* I think my love of Samuel Vimes can be summed up in a single quote:

"Hello, my name is Sam, and I'm a suspicious bastard."

The eight of October is St. Otto Octavius Day.

I think "That's 'bloody hell sir', to you!" is pretty good too ^^
Of course, nothing beats when he proves his sobriety in Feet of Clay: "Peter Piper picked a peck och pickled peppers! A peck of bloody pickled peppers Peter Piper damn' well picked. Do you want me to continue?"

Now, say that five times in a row! Cheese!

And also: the very day it came out, my mom bought Unseen Academicals for me! It's a lovely, big hardcover book and I think I'm in love! <3
(bless you, mam!)
