That's... well, Elminster technically covers that, seeing as how he spend about a decade trapped in a woman's body.
As does Edwin if the ending to Throne of Bhaal is to be believed, seeing as how a very bitter Edwina now tends bar in Waterdeep.

I read the Elminster book once during an epic bout of boredom. The book did nothing to alleviate it, except for a giggle fit when I realised the most powerful caster in the Realms had spent a decade as a woman for pissing off the goddess of magic. Mwaha.

You know, I hadn't even thought of trannies! That would be a perfectly sensible use of the phrase Mary Stu.
And thanks, Xiao. I'll steer clear of Elminster. But you know, there are some books where powerful casters spend their entire LIVES as women! Isn't that funny?

But do these casters start their lives off as men?
That's kind of the funny part, the most powerful mage ever (IIRC) steps on the wrong goddess's toes and gets his wedding tackle inverted for the better part of a decade.
That's got to be good for a chuckle at least.

Considering that it's frickin' ELMINSTER, the most aggravatingly unkillable Gary Stu it's ever been my misfortune to encounter in a game, both PC and PnP? It made my MONTH. LORD I hate Elminster. Arrogant, smart-alecing... *mutter mutter*
