Jealous! You'll have to let me know if it's a good one, I'll have disposable income again soon. _________________ Gryphons are better than dragons. Gryphons PURR. |

Vimes! Yes indeed. His conversations with Vetinari always fill me with glee.
Quote: | "Did you really punch the president of the Assassins' Guild?"
"Yes, sir."
"Why?"
"Didn't have a dagger, sir."
Vetinari turned away abruptly. |

Speaking of conversations between Vimes and Vetinari, this has got to be my favourite:
Quote: |
"Commander, I always used to consider that you had a definite anti-authoritarian streak in you."
"Sir?"
"It seems that you have managed to retain this even though you are authority."
"Sir?"
"That's practically Zen."
"Sir?"
"It seems I've only got to be unwell for a few days and you manage to upset everyone of importance in this city."
"Sir."
"Was that a 'yes, sir' or a 'no, sir', Sir Samuel?"
"It was just a 'sir', sir." |
It just sums Vimes up so well... ^^ I love ol' Stoneface's stoneface! _________________ Elves, demons, normal humans, not so normal humans, random silliness and a carton of milk

That conversation is very special. I have to tell you, if I wound up in Ankh-Morpork, I have two points of call. First point of call, find the Patrician and hug him before wandering off with a smile on my face. Second point of call, the Unseen University and Ponder Stibbons, who also gets a big hug and tons of sympathy.
Of course, the second does rather depend on my surviving the first with all my limbs intact. _________________ Gryphons are better than dragons. Gryphons PURR. |

Then to CMOT Dibbler's stand, for a sausage inna bun. Maybe a nice meat pie.
I mean, you've pushed you're luck so far, may as well go all the way with it. _________________

Funny, that's just about exactly what I had planned for Vimes. XD I wonder which would be safer. _________________ "The one concession a sane man will never yield the universe is that of considering it seriously."

Vimes would probably be safer, assuming you did it while Sybil wasn't around. The Patrician, on the other hand... you can never be sure how he'd react. It's seriously equal money on him shooting you with a concealed crossbow or thanking you for the compliment.
I bet Ponder would just go all blank for a minute there, kind of like a lot of other geeky types I've met over the years. *giggle* 'Buh? There is a woman hugging me. Why is there a woman hugging me?' _________________ Gryphons are better than dragons. Gryphons PURR. |

I'd go straight to Pseudopolis Yard and surprise attack the Commander with a hug!
Can't you just picture his face?
"What the hell is this? Constable Cheery, there's something hugging me! Get rid of it!"
XD
Oh yeah, you got Ponder's reaction down, Xiao! I'd like to give both him and Rincewind a really long hug, they both deserve it after all they've been through.
Oh, and it would be really interesting to have a philosophical discussion with the Archchancellor, don't you think?
Oh. oh! This seems to be the best place to ask:
What do you think would happen if Vimes and Granny Weatherwax met?
Would they a) ignore each other
b) find a kindred spirit (because they are in some ways frighteningly similar!)
or c) want to kill the other?
I think I mixture of b and c, because they would realize they were too alike and then they would want to get rid of the other! _________________ Elves, demons, normal humans, not so normal humans, random silliness and a carton of milk

Ooh, good question. My roomie and I always wondered how Granny and the Patrician would get along, but somehow a meeting of Granny and Vimes sounds much more interesting (read: potentially volatile).
I wonder if they'd get into a subtle posturing contest, comparing their past exploits. Which was worse -- fending off a dragon, or the queen of the elves? Fighting a family of vampires, or a pack of werewolves? For that matter, whose colleagues are the most exasperating? And don't even start on the inner turmoil and constant self-directed vigilance required to keep them on the right side of their own moral code...
Man, it would be great if Terry got them together in a book someday. _________________ "The one concession a sane man will never yield the universe is that of considering it seriously."

I dreamt that his last book in the series will unite all of the different plot lines he's had running in the series. Vimes along side the Witches, Death (w/ Susan), Moist, Cohen and the silver horde, the Wizards, and he tossed in Brutha and Pteppic through some time monk shenanigans for good measure (basically pretty much everyone who showed up in more then one book).
They all get together and kick the everloving crap out of the Auditors who are once again getting too big for their voluminous grey robes.
I woke up depressed because I realized that the series had to end sometime, and unfortunately, it's likely to be sooner rather then later. _________________
