Nope, you two are both incorrect. Feanor did die before most of his sons, however his youngest son, Amras, was killed shortly after they arrived on Middle Earth in their pursuit of Morgoth. After landing in Losgar which was then part of Lammoth in the west of Beleriand, they decided to burn the ships they had taken, abandoning Fingolfin and his followers to take the path through Helcaraxe. Feanor neglected the fact that his youngest son Amras was still on the ships, thus Amras was burned alive shortly after the beginning of their quest.

I do agree with their not being an Action Jack in Lord of the Ring. This tragic thread might explain why my sister hates it so much. (she's got the pinkest glasses I've ever seen!) She absolutely hates the end where, Frodo leaves Middle Earth for the peace of Valinor. I keep trying to explain to her that it was for the best for him, but she's just so mad that he abandoned his hobbit friends. I don't think she fully understands the whole thing, which is not so surprising seeing as she only ever watched the movies.

I forgot about the theft of the ships and the kin slaying. I guess Fëanor wasn't the second Eldar to die. But Nemilay, you are wrong about the death of Amras. He did not perish in fire but was slain along with his twin brother Amrod in an attack upon the remnants of the populations of Gondolin and Doriath. All of the sons of Fëanor died long after him.

Amazing how quickly a thread about how many languages you can speak can twist to a debate about the history in LotR.

I love you internet, never change.

@See: Sorry, it's all my fault. Confused
@Nem: I think you're thinking of the Histories of Middle Earth. I know I read that thing about his youngest son and the ships as well. But it didn't make it into the final version, thank goodness!
@Xiao: I have no knowledge of what you speak. I mean, sing. And I don't think I want to... Shocked
About actual languages: I learned second declention in Latin this week! Soon... soon I will be able to - (*thinks* not take over the world, that would be too much work...) I dunno. Speak Latin? Who here is a fan of Latin?

I wasn't being a jerk, well not intentionally this time. I just love the way any conversation can go anywhere in no time at all by the merest suggestion. It's like you're witnessing the butterfly effect in action, and it entertains me far more then it should.

Also, do a youtube search for "Avenue Q". It's a broadway musical that is highly entertaining. If you think "Sesame street", then add 15-20 years of bitterness, jaded cynicism and harsh reality you'll be on the right path. The song Xiao was referencing tells about one of the characters planning to teach her class about all the useful stuff they can do on the internet, only to be harshly reminded by several other characters of all the other stuff on the internet. Some enterprising people put together a mechanima using the World of Warcraft engine. It's quite entertaining. Linky if your interested. May not be completely safe for work, but chances are if you've got youtube at work, you've seen worse already.

Other entertaining songs include:
Everyones a little bit racist
If you were gay
I'm not wearing underwear today
My girlfriend (who lives in canada)
and You can be as loud as the hell you want (when you're making love).

As for latin, I'm a fan.
I've got a pennant on my wall and a giant foam finger and everything.
I watch the language bowl every year, always hoping that Latin will take it all.
Sadly, they never do. Latin seems to be being beat down by easier slanguages that crop up everywhere.

Ah the internet, where the men are men, the women are men, and the children are FBI agents.

That would explain the differences. It seemes The One Wiki to Rule Them All says that as well. I guess some people believe it to be canon.

Nescio quid dicas. Vah! Denuone Latine loquebar? Me ineptum. Interdum modo elabitur.
(I don't know what you're talking about. Oh! Was I speaking Latin again? Silly me. Sometimes it just sort of slips out.)
