That won't be necessary, lab assistant.

They are "alive" from a certain point of view.

As long as we have a muzzle ready, we should be ok.

Check the patient. I shall now begin the procedure.

My first language is English... I have high-school French (so not that great) and a few bits and pieces of Japanese; I'm learning Latin at university this year, and Italian is coming next year (whoohoo). I can pronounce words in Welsh thanks to Susan Cooper's novel The Grey King, and I know the meanings of most names in LotR/The Silmarillion. And I have my own language, kalmaeirin, which is mostly nouns at the moment.
I know profanity in 0 languages. Cool Cheese!

Zela is my new hero! I love others who have actually studied into Lord of the Rings and didn't just watch the movies and think they now know everything. I feel bad that in almost every version of the movies Glorfindel never gets a part. He was a great guy, and I'd love to see what he looks like to Frodo while he's wearing the ring. I thought that was one of the best descriptions in the book. Too bad it's never made it to film.

I still remember the one time I thought they got it right. I was watching an animated version that we happened upon at the library, and upon seeing the golden haired elf astride his white horse I happily exclaimed, "Glorfindel!" Then Aragorn informed me, it was actually Legolas. To which I responded, "WHAT!?" I have no idea how they proposed to explain Legolas' presence there, or why him and Aragorn seemed to already know each other when I wasn't aware of them having met before the Council of Elrond. So if you can figure it out, I congratulate you, I myself could not, for the life of me put the pieces of that together.

I've found however that there are two questions you can ask to figure out whether or not people have read the books. The first being, "What is Miruvoir?" and the second, "Who is Glorfindel?" Their answer to the second will also tell you whether or not they've read the Silmarillion, because there are actually two.

I LOVE Glorfindel! Je T'adore He is my favourite character. Actually I saw screenshots from the live-action movie of some pasty-faced milky-haired guy apparently labelled "Glorfindel" but he was rather hideous compared to what he looks like in my head. I absolutely adore the description of him at the feast of Elrond.
...I thought Legolas was Glorfindel in the live-action movie, too. I haven't seen the animated version...
I think in the Xth book of the Histories of Middle Earth Tolkien did say that Glorfindel was probably the same in both eras, although he died in the Silmarillion. I think he said he accidentally used the same name twice, and then just decided that they could be the same person.
You can also ask them "Who did Gandalf say made the Palantiri?"
I'm flattered to be your hero... Embarrassed Smile I guess I better draw some more Glorfindel fanart. Cheese!

That 'fluent' thing got me. XD

Took five years of spanish in Middle/High School.

Forgotten most of it.

Took 3 years of Japanese in college.

Hanging on by a thread. *hugs her dictionaries and japanese music/anime*

Fluent, only English.

Currently on my list of languages to learn is Swedish. :D

Though, having a Romanian co-worker has sparked interest in that language too. XD

I remembered reading that and thinking, 'Huh? They can't be the same person. Descended from mayber, but not the same person.' Still, both of them were very heroic. I have to agree with you on the pictures of Glorfindel, his face looks like it has almost no definition.

Here's a picture of what the animated version looked like. I believe, the picture is Frodo (on the horse), Legolas, Aragron, and Sam.
