Sometimes Magic Sounds Like Tape

Masters of Their Worlds

Can you recognize these fine folks? I’ll give you three guesses:

Discworld Gift Art

…Got it?

If you guessed “Lord Vetinari, Granny Weatherwax, and Terry Pratchett himself,” award yourself a cookie!

This is the NADWCON gift art that I was working on for the last few days. Just finished it this morning, then took a two-mile walk to Kinko’s to have it properly printed and laminated. (Note to self: Buy new ink cartridges for the home printer. And look into the matter of stealing a laminator.)

I barely managed to catch up to Terry and hand it to him as he made his escape after the closing ceremony. I’m so glad I was able to finish it on time. :D

He thanked me kindly, even though he was in a hurry and could only glance at it. I hope he’ll be pleased with it once he has a chance to relax and take a look at it later.

I’m fairly happy with how it turned out. It was incredibly rushed, but I would far rather have something nice to give to my favorite author than something perfect that I can’t.

As for the con itself, overall… it was fantastic! I’ll see about doing a proper write-up later; if I started to talk about everything that was awesome now, we would be here all night. ♥

I’m so jealous of you right now! Meeting the amazing Sir Pratchett himself! I probably would have swooned immediately after handing him the picture (okay, maybe not, but there would be have been some definite fangirlage).

The picture is gorgeous, by the way.

*squeal* It’s such an awesome picture! I went ‘Holy crap, it’s the Patrician’ the instant I saw him. After that, the rest was easy.

Man, I’m so jealous. I’d love the chance to meet Sir Pratchett in person, even if only for a few seconds.

(If you haven’t seen it yet, look up ‘Run, Rincewind, Run!’ on Youtube. That’s what my country does for awesome people.)

One of these days, I’m going to read more Discworld stuff. The only one I’ve read is “Equal Rites” (randomly picked up at a library sale). So…at least I know Granny! :D b She’s probably my favorite figure of the three…her face is very respectable and wise.

    DarkMousy: Yes, my natural instinct in such situations is “throw the picture in the recipient’s general direction, then dive behind the nearest couch.” Luckily(?) since there were only a few seconds to catch up with him and hand it over, there wasn’t enough time to be bashful. ^^;

Aww, I guess I’d be jealous too. Personally, I’m still wondering how it even happened. Having the convention even be near enough to attend was some incredible luck. Then finding last-minute tickets, miraculously finishing a picture in a few days (instead of the usual month or so), and then being in the right place at the right time to give it to him at the end of the last day… Altogether it seems like a million-to-one chance!

Xiao: Eehee, that was brilliant. XD

    “You… bastard.” *indignant cloak swirl*

I love Australia even more now.

KitFang: You totally should! That was pretty early in the series, and they just keep getting better as they go. If you aren’t worried about starting from the beginning, I’d recommend “Lords and Ladies” as another great stand-alone book. It’s one of my favorites. (And it also has Granny!)

I knew you’d like it. It’s very clever. And funny. And totally appropriate.

(And yes, that weird pole/bamboo/art thing actually exists. I got caught in it as a kid. I was a real explorer, back in the day.)

I came across your art while looking for something else, and just wanted to say that I love this picture! It’s really fantastic. I’m glad you got to give it to Sir Pterry in person (how exciting :D ).

  7. Aja Says:

Thank you kindly! I’m glad you like it.

It was exciting indeed. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to give him something. :D
