Henzzn?

Out of all the TM cast, somehow Henson has always been the hardest one to draw. Perplexing! But recently, while perusing a Legend of Drizzt comic, I noticed that the main character’s facial proportions and hair are very close to how I’ve been picturing (if not successfully drawing) my handsome Hireau.
So, in a wanton act of shameless imitation, I made a few quick sketches using the Drizzt comic panels as reference.
Experimental Henson comes in five flavors: Cautious, Cheerful, Cranky, Concerned, and Confident.
(As it turns out, drawing with one hand while holding a comic book open in front of your monitor with the other is slightly trickier than it sounds.)

woah nice! I like the top two the best
and bottom left.
I would love to help you out with another donation this month, but I’ve just hit the red myself and my crappy stipend won’t come through
if it does I’ll wing a tenner your way if it doesn’t I’ll be visiting the soup-kitchen XD

I’m all for experimentation through imitation! Go you!
Cheerful Henson is my fav by far. The slight eyebrow-bump above the nose, the little upturn at the tip of said nose, the shape of the lips–all quite lovely. (I can just about hear him saying something from the shape of the lips…is that weird?)
Cranky Henson is creeping me out just a little bit…….I feel like he’s channeling The Don. o_o XD

I think the top two are tied for my personal favorite.
Lab Rat: Thanks! I appreciate the thought. Donation or no, I hope your stipend comes through. Being in the red is scary. ^^;
KitFang: Hmm, it does look like he’s saying something. (Maybe, “Cheer up, Cranky Henson. It’s not so bad down there.”)
…Heh! Funny you should say that. My roomie has mentioned the same thing about other sketches over the years; apparently Henson in any style starts to resemble The Don when he’s cross. XD

Ahhhhhhhhh!!! (Fan girl scream)
I love Drizzt! Just knowing that the drawings are based off of him makes it so I can see him in those expressions. Wow, who knew they could look so alike. I can especially see Drizzt in the bottom left one. That’s a face you never want to see on a drow when they’re standing in front of you with a pair of drawn Scimitars. At that point you might as well start praying because the end is nigh. I don’t know about the Don though, I guess I’m just not seeing it.
I must be too busy seeing the Drizzt in it XD

Hee, neat. I guess I did an adequate job of copying, then!
Oh yes, Drizzt is a cool guy. I liked him from the start, but his trick of pretending to be a polymorphed dragon in the third novel really made me a fan.
(Too bad they couldn’t fit that bit with Hephaestus into the comic adaptation.)
…I seem to recall the bottom left expression occurring after the dire corbies had knocked Guenhwyvar into the acid pit. That was not a good day to be a dire corby. XD

I definately wouldn’t have wanted to be one. I too loved the trick with the dragon. “I am Mergandevinasander, can’t you see the resemblance?” That and when he threw off Dove Falconhand when they were chasing him. That was another of my favorite parts. They climb all the way down only to learn that he never went any further then the edge. XD He’s so clever it kills me sometimes. I’m glad people are finally starting to recognize him as the hero he is.
