Hael and Uriel

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

For Eden! Two angel characters, showing off their wings (one with some mild reluctance):

Come on, strike a pose!

The gentleman with bluejay-patterned wings is Hael, and the peacock-feathered one is Uriel. I find it charming that Uriel is the shy one. ^^

Angels in pajamas FTW. ♥

Action Kiku

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

This was an exercise like the one in the previous post, only with a full figure instead of a head. It’s Kiku! And he’s… not wearing anything. (Because I wanted to focus on getting the anatomy right. Yeah… that’s the ticket.) So even though nothing controversial is shown, don’t click on the thumbnails if you don’t want to look at naked Kiku. XD

The left sketch is probably the best figure I’ve ever drawn without a reference. (And the one on the right… well, I don’t know what to think of it. But it was fun, and I’m sure it was good practice.) So I’m super happy. ♥

Huzzah for Burne Hogarth!

Getting ahead. Or even nine!

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

So, for some reason, I had never heard of Burne Hogarth until about two weeks ago! Astounding, I know. But I stumbled across Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery and, soon after, Dynamic Figure Drawing, whereupon the thought occurred: “ZOMG I think I have a new hero.”

Anyway, I just tried one of the simpler exercises from the figure drawing book: sketching a face with consistent proportions from several angles. The results?

Frown for the camera!

It has some… peculiarities, but I’m happy with it as a first attempt, and I definitely learned some things from the process of drawing it.

And now! I’m off to renew my library checkouts. I want to keep these books for a while. ♥
