June 19th Update!

This week, let me tell you about...

Davie504

Last week we met some fine metal. Now it's time to meet bass! This guy demonstrates that pretty much any song you care to name sounds 56% cooler when expertly played on an electric bass guitar.

Aside from covering lots of great popular and classic songs, he also infuses plenty of fun and whimsy into his videos, taking requests and challenges from his audience, and generally meme-ing it up (all the while still making awesome music).

Here are a few of my favorites:

Nyan Cat Meets Bass (Okay, I'll admit, maybe I like this song a little too much.)

Spooky Scary Skeletons Meets Bass (Actually more groovy than spooky.)

Fretless Bass Solo (So smoooooth...)

A Drop of Blood (PG-13 - Moderate Violence)

Goal: Steal artifact from temple. Step 1: Steal a jet to get there. Our heroine has some unusual abilities to help her out -- but so do her enemies. Action movie style, fast pacing and striking artwork make this an exciting read.

331Erock

On the subject of excellent guitarists, here's one of the best. You may have already heard of him, but if not, let me tell you: You are in for a treat!

He makes amazing metal guitar covers of game music, classical music, pop music, classic rock, movie themes... you name it, he can make it AWESOMELY METAL.

Also, I just love how happy this dude looks when he's playing. Even if I'm not familiar with a particular song, seeing a new video from him always brightens my day.

Check out a few examples (and then, most likely, the entire rest of his channel):

Nyan Cat Meets Metal (The rainbow pop-tart space-cat has never sounded so epic.)

Prince of Persia Meets Metal (I adore Sands of Time and its soundtrack. So many nostalgic feels here!)

The Diva Dance (from The Fifth Element) Meets Metal (*swoons*)

FamilyJules7X

Here's one of my favorite musicians on YouTube. He makes excellent guitar covers of video game music, which is reason enough to love his channel -- but what I really like about his videos is that he always looks like he's having so much fun while playing.

It is one of my goals in life to do all my writing and drawing with that kind of enthusiasm. (Just gotta figure out how to type while headbanging...)

Here are a few great examples of his music:

Ocarina of Time - Twinrova (A delightful acoustic intro leads into some sweet electric shreddin'. This is one of those covers that made me appreciate the original song a lot more.)

Donkey Kong Country - Coral Capers (A.k.a. Aquatic Ambiance, a.k.a. one of my favorite game themes, which apparently still sounds relaxing AND ALSO awesome on guitar.)

Sonic the Hedgehog - Marble Zone (This one is always good for a mood/energy boost. "Gotta draw fast!")

This week, let me tell you about...

Sandara

So many of my favorite paintings were created by this artist! She makes gorgeous fantasy illustrations that cover pretty much the entire spectrum of things that make me happy: cute, whimsical, romantic, adventurous, epic, eerie, awe-inspiring, and just... SO PRETTY.

I love how her rendering style strikes such a nice balance between "solid and believable" and "clean and stylized." It really makes me want to work harder on my own lighting and texturing skills.

Anyway, this is the part where I'd usually link to a few of the best examples of the artist's work, but in this case that's pretty much "all of it"... so, here are just the first three that come to mind:

Precious (Utterly charming. Even better when you read the short description.)

Beauty and the Beast (Absolutely lovely. Somehow, I can't stop staring at the background...)

Sparkle Kitty Dragon (The most intimidating kitty, or the most adorable dragon? You decide.)

Honestly, you could spend all day admiring the hundreds of beautiful paintings in her gallery.

I recommend it. ♥

Andantonius

Here is one of my favorite digital painters! I always find his gallery to be a great source of inspiration. Not only does he create excellent work, he's also generous with his insight and advice for other artists.

Check it out:

He makes truly fabulous artwork.

He makes in-depth art tutorials and process walkthroughs with useful tips on mindset as well as technique.

He even makes awesome electronic music (along with more tutorials) on his YouTube channel.

Give this dude some love and subs!
